Seminar on Jolm Webster
| This course will be an intensive investigation of selected plays by John Webster. While Webster collaborated with many of his fellow dramatists on numerous works, he is most well known for the three plays that he authored himself: The White Devil, The Dutchess of Malfi, and The Devil's Law-Case. Even though his work is limited, Webster, of the numerous dramatists of the 17th century, is most frequently compared to Shakespeare in terms of the profundity of his thought and the sophistication of his style. Indeed, The Duchess of Malfi is one of the richest, most skillfully constructed plays in the history of drama. |
