This course touches on a number of trends in European and American literature
since the outbreak of World War II. Because the most significant of those trends is in the postmodernist movement, about half the term will be spent on writers (Beckett, Robbe-Grillet, and Pynchon) who mine that vein. We will also consider several important neo-modernist novelists and look at a small selection of contemporary poetry.
