Noel Polk was a kind and generous colleague and a dear friend. We join many others in feeling a profound sadness over his passing as well as a deeply felt appreciation for having known him and worked with him over the years. May he rest in peace. He died August 22nd, 2012.
Professional Bio
Noel Polk, having retired from his teaching duties, continues his tenure as editor of The Mississippi Quarterly. He specializes in American fiction, and has published and lectured widely in this country, Europe, Japan, and the former Soviet Union on William Faulkner and Eudora Welty. Recent books include Children of the Dark House: Text and Context in Faulkner (1996); Eudora Welty: A Bibliography of Her Work (1993); and Outside the Southern Myth (1997). In addition he is in the process of editing William Faulkner's works for The Library of America, Random House, and Vintage International, and recently (2001) edited a new edition of Robert Penn Warren's All the King's Men for Harcourt Brace.
